Date: 2007-07-13 08:34 pm (UTC)It seems that the <a href=...> construct did not work. This happened for 2 reasons.
1. The starting < is absent.
2. The quotes after href= are the "smart quotes", not "straight", and thus the value would not be interpreted correctly.
Magnified:
” smart quote (closing).
" regular shift+apostrophe quote.
Can you see the difference?
Most of the time, it's some well-intended word processor that silently replaces plain quotes to pairs of opening-closing smart quotes. It looks better in typography -- but ruins code.
