This is only funny because I got this meme from a girl from Tolkien fanfiction crowd; she was "Hobbit", and I was sure I will be, too. Not only "I" turned out some presumably libertarian propaganda crap, but I hadn't even read this book! I had mandatory "Fathers and Sons" and "What to do?" instead.

take the WHAT BAD BOOK ARE YOU test.

and go to mewing.net. not as good as reading a good book, but way better than a bad one.

1. I am not surprised by the result
2. It's a really good book

Your (you didn't name it) or mine? If you mean Rand, it may be good or at list worth reading. I just find it funny, if not surprizing, that my hazy political preferences outweught very defined "aesthetical" ones.

I haven't read Ayn Rand's magnumopus, but apparently half the libertarians that exist caught the bug from The Lord of the Rings and the other half caught it from Atlas Shrugged. On whether it's a good book, it depends on who you ask--and the maker of the quiz, seeming to be a bitchy statist rabid Democrat who loudly proclaims her massive hate and contempt for anyone conservative, homeschooled, "Republican", Christian, etc. in her other tests, doesn't exactly seem like a person who'd enjoy a book about a wealthy, good-looking elite libertarian society in a failing world.

Obviously I couldn't take her judgment seriously: she puts Hobbit in an "awful books" list. I heard Rand was not much of a literature from better sources than a random girl with a webpage, but I'll give it a try anyway. How does LotR spread the libertarian bug? There are many things between all-dark totalitarian nightmare presumably resulting from Sauron's victory and libertarian society.

LOTR? Huh? Libertarianism is Rand by definition.

P.S. And from my look at the girl's other tests, it looks like any other book on her "Most Hated" list (save possibly "Mein Kampf") would be well worth reading, too--as I know about The Hobbit and Beowulf.

I was actually rather surprised with Mein Kampf in her list. I didn't realize it could be mandatory anywhere in the US.

Yours, I didn't do mine, but will. And all preferences are aesthetical. At least all of mine. The only reason I don't eat live babies for breakfast is that it interferes with my sense of beauty.

Tell me when you do. Ethical vs. aesthetical: at this point I am content with existing terms and feel no need to replace or redefine them.

It's a book I haven't read, something about Lot 49.

The totally incomprehensible one? I see... I haven't read this one, too.
